Obituary for William "Bill" Fisher

William "Bill" Fisher, aged 90, of Somersworth, NH, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Hyder House in Dover, NH, on Saturday, November 25, 2023. Born in Lynn, MA, and raised in Saugus, MA, Bill was the son of Albert and Annie (McKechnie) Fisher. A 1951 graduate of Saugus High School, he honorably served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Sergeant. His service included supporting microwave radio-relay towers in the USA and Morocco, Africa.



After his military service, Bill attended Ball State University in Indiana, majoring in history, before entering the workforce. His career spanned various roles at Royal McBee, Raytheon, and Burroughs, leading him into the emerging computer industry as a hardware field engineer supporting General Electric computer mainframes. Bill retired as a Senior Systems Software Engineer after a 30-year tenure with General Electric and Honeywell.



In retirement, Bill pursued his passion for golf, crafting custom golf clubs. He enjoyed spending time with family and cooking, continuously honing his culinary skills. An avid reader, Bill had a keen interest in history and loved sharing witty anecdotes and stories, especially about his experiences in Morocco with his children and grandchildren.



Bill was the devoted husband of Delores (McManus) Fisher, sharing 64 years of marriage. Together, they raised four children in Beverly, MA. He is survived by his loving wife, Delores, and their children: son Daniel Fisher and his wife Ann (Barcelo) of Wolfeboro, NH and their children Kristen, Blaise, William, Blaire, Wesley, Bianca, Hailey, and their five grandchildren and expected grandson; daughter Brenda Pierce and her husband Thomas of Dover, NH and their children Michael, Justin, Kendra, and their two grandsons; daughter Lynne Mitchell and her husband Ian of Simi Valley, CA and their children Ryan, Sarah, and their expected granddaughter; and daughter Janet Fisher and her daughter Jaden of Somersworth, NH. He is also survived by his sister, Marjorie Compton of Saugus, MA and predeceased by his sister, Marion Murphy of Revere, MA. Bill leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews.



A loving Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bill's memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
