Obituary for Thelma Alice Briggs (Watkins)

Thelma “Alice” Briggs passed away October 28 following a period of declining health. She was born on November 24, 1941, in Atlanta, GA to her loving parents Clyde and Grace Watkins, both deceased. She attended Georgia State College for Women and graduated in 1964. While in school she worked with the Civil Air Patrol and joined the USAF in 1965 after graduation. She received two Air Force Commendation medals for superior work while at Shepherd AFB, Texas and Hof Air Station, Germany as Administrative Officer for the Base Commander.
While stationed at Hof Air Station she met the love of her life, Captain Bob Briggs of Belfast, ME. They married at Hof and have lived happily together for 51 years. Alice also worked for the US Postal Service for 20 years, starting in Fairbanks, Alaska and ending with 17 years in Kittery, ME. She has lived the last 35 years in Dover, NH. Alice was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. She loved gardening, bird watching and singing and playing the ukulele, and she participated with the Silver Strummers of the Dover Senior Center for many years. She was also a strong supporter of the New Hampshire SPCA.
Alice is survived by her husband Bob, her two sons and their families: Rob (and wife Dana) Briggs, Mike (and wife Emily) Briggs and their two grandchildren Aria and Shepherd.
Visiting hours will be from 12-2 pm on Sunday, November 6th at Purdy Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, NH; followed by a memorial service. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you please consider a donation to the New Hampshire SPCA.
