Obituary for Scott K. Mitchell

Scott Kendall Mitchell (59) died peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2018 after a courageous battle against cancer. Originally from Winthrop, MA, he resided in Barrington, NH for the last 17 years. Scott was a mail carrier for 20 years until he retired last June to focus on his health, and worked most recently for the Portsmouth Post Office where he boasted that he had delivered mail to every building in the city at some point in time. He was pre-deceased by his parents Barbara Pierce Mitchell and John Kendall Mitchell. Scott is survived by his brothers Grant and David Mitchell, and sister Susan Mitchell. He leaves behind his wife of 26 years, Carol, and their daughter Marissa - the light of his life. Scott’s great passions included listening to and playing music from classical to rock; all modes of transportation including trains, cars, tractors, trucks, motorcycles and boats; and reading many novels at a time. An avid nature-lover, Scott received a BS in Marine Biology from UMass Dartmouth in 1983 and loved to spend time in the woods and on the water with family and friends. A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at Purdy’s Memorial Chapel in Lee, NH at 3:00pm on Thursday, August 2nd, 2018 with visitation one hour before; followed by refreshments provided at the family’s Koaukee Island property on Bow Lake in Strafford, NH.
