Obituary for Ruth D. Greenwood Miss

Lee: Ruth Denise Greenwood, 80, of Mast Rd, passed away on Wed., Dec. 21, 2011 at her residence with her family by her side. Ruth was born on June 17, 1931 in Portland, ME; the daughter of Marion (Driscoll) and Jack Wagner. Ruth received her Masters’ Degree in Teaching from UNH and was an English teacher at the Portsmouth High School; retiring after 31 years in 1984. Ruth really loved her students and had many of them looked her up later in their lives. She was still friends with many of her students. She was a Past President for many local Associations; Oyster River Teachers’ Guild, Association of Portsmouth Teachers, Association of Classroom Teachers, Association of Southern Retired teachers and the NH Retired Teachers’ Association. Some of Ruth’s favorite hobbies were line dancing, reading, being in the writers’ group, making and wearing her “topic” buttons of wit and humor. She was lovingly known by everyone as the “Button Lady”. Ruth was predeceased by her parents and sibling(s). Ruth is survived by her lifelong friend, Eleanor Plummer; a special niece, Ellie Greenwood; several nieces and nephews; her extended family here in NH, with whom she was very close; and all of her many friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s name to the Scholarship Fund, Seacoast Retired Teachers’ Association, c/o Chair Ann Walker, 6 Cleveland Dr., Portsmouth, NH 03801. Friends and family may call from 12-1:00 pm on Fri., Dec. 30, 2011 with a memorial service to follow at 1:00pm at the Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Rt.4, Lee, NH.
