Obituary for Ruth S. Colprit Mrs.

Dover: Ruth S. Colprit, 98, of Dover died on January 22, 2012 at Langdon Place in Dover. Born in Newburyport, MA on October 7, 1913, she was the daughter of Robert L and Emma B Smith. After graduating from Newburyport High School, she worked as a bookkeeper for Roy Ireland at the Grafton Shoe Company here in Dover. She married Irving W Colprit in December 1940 before he left for service in the Army. Several years after his return from WWII, in 1950, they moved to their property in Dover where they ran a dairy farm until the 1980's. Ruth also worked at the Strafford Savings Bank and the Richardson Insurance Agency before ending her "working career" at the Granite State Tool and Die Company of Madbury. Ruth was a 56 - year member of the Union Congregational Church of Madbury. She served as Clerk for many years and was a Deacon over the span of seven ministers. She was also a member of the Madbury Community Club and a founding member of the Madbury Ladies Aid Society. After Irving's death in 1993, the Church became even more like part of her family; She was always very proud of "her church" and of her many friends there. She was the secretary for the Everyday Circle of Kings Daughters and Sons for over 20 years. Ruth was on the state board from Strafford County and was still a member of The NH Farm Bureau Federation. Ruth is survived by her son, Stephen and his wife, Phebe, her granddaughter, Deborah Pine and her husband Timothy, and their son Jonathan (Ruth's only great-grandchild). She is also survived by her brother, Robert L Smith of Lakeville, MI, her sisters and brother- in - law Dorothy Colprit of Northwood, NH (formerly of Dover), and Philip Colprit and his wife Katherine of Dalton, NH as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased, in 1993, by her husband of 53 years, Irving Woodman Colprit and, in 2002, by her grandson, Jonathan Adam Colprit. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s name to Union Congregational Church of Madbury, 20 Town Hall Road, Madbury, NH, 03820. Friends and family may call from 5-7:00pm, Tues., Jan. 31, 2012 at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, NH. Friends and family may also call from 12-1:00pm Feb. 1, 2012 with a funeral service immediately following at 1:00pm at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, NH with Rev. Maren C. Tirabassi, officiating. There will be a reception following the service at the Madbury Town Hall hosted by the Madbury Community Club. Interment will follow in the spring.
