Obituary for Ronald Edward Farr

Northwood, New Hampshire — Ronald Edward Farr, 81, long-time resident at Bow Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

He was born on October 24, 1942, in Waltham, Massachusetts, the son of Everett and Esther (Roland) Farr. Ron was a graduate of Stoneham High School (MA). He was an accomplished electrician working a varied career as a loyal member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 103. Work took Ron across the Northeast and Midwest, including automotive plant revitalizations in Detroit, technical support for an early robotics team, and numerous buildings, campuses, and the Big Dig in Boston. He also spent years working in hardware while supporting his family in “retirement” and was a 25-year member of Corinthian Masonic Lodge 82 of Pittsfield, NH.

Ron spent many years since childhood with family and friends on Bow Lake, boating, hosting guests, and taking care of the year-round maintenance. As a kid, Ron adventured with his beloved dog Teddy. His adventures grew as a young adult with downhill skiing and speed boating with friends and learning to fly airplanes in his mid-twenties. Some of his flying highlights included training with his stunt pilot instructor, water landing a floatplane, and exploring New England for his flight hours.

Ron had two daughters, Kristan and Kelley, from his first marriage in 1972 with Maureen Shannon. Ron and Maureen divorced in 1990 at which time Ron moved back to the Farr family homestead in Northwood, NH.

Ron enjoyed going out and dancing, which is how he met his wife Kum while on a job in Detroit. They eventually moved together back to Ron’s home in Northwood to enjoy nature and raise their two kids, Jihyon and Seonghyon.

Ron had a heart of gold and would readily give you the shirt off his back. His generosity was warm and bottomless, and his sharp humor kept everyone on their toes as no one was above being a butt of his jokes – although the twinkle in his eye let you know it was all just in good fun. He was loved deeply by his family, and he returned that love ten-times over.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kum Lee Farr of Northwood, of over 23 years; his children, Kristan Farr, Kelley Farr, Jihyon Im and her husband Harrison Roakes, and Seonghyon Im and his wife Kuntida “Nat” Dankhum; and his grandchild, Charles Tarricone.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Department of NH Veterans of Foreign Wars (vfwnh.org).
