Obituary for Robert L Towne
Robert L. Towne, 81, died November 27, 2023, at Wentworth Douglass Hospital, Dover, NH. Robert was born on August 28, 1942 in Dover, NH, to Reita Pierce Towne and Lawrence Everett Towne. He was the oldest of three brothers.
He attended Dover High School, graduating in 1960, and went on to the University of New Hampshire where he majored in engineering, graduating in 1966 with “High Honors”. After graduation, he was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a chemical engineer until he retired after 30 years.
Robert loved working with the Boy Scouts, camping and hiking in the White Mountains. He was proud that he had completed all but one of the 4,000 ft. mountains. Robert was very knowledgeable about the mountains and organized camping trips working with Sanbornville’s local Boy Scout Troop and traveling to Boy Scout Jamborees out west.
He built his residence on Pine River Pond in East Wakefield, NH, where he hosted summer parties with his pontoon boat for the Boy Scouts and family.
Robert was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Richard in 1969 and Stephen in 2021. He is survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on December 5, 2023 at 11 am at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home at 655 Central Avenue, Dover NH 03820.
