Obituary for Robert Joseph Houde

Robert “Bob” J. Houde, 97, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2022 at the Watson Fields Assisted Living Facility in Dover, NH.

Born on August 6, 1924 in Dover, NH, was the last living child of the late Cesaire and Cordelia (Croteau) Houde. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy on January 30, 1943 and served with the 6th Special Naval Construction Battalion Seabee’s as a Storekeeper First Class during WWII in the South Pacific. He was awarded many metals for his service. Bob retired from the United States Post Office in Dover, NH in 1988 and enjoyed traveling to California during the winter months to visit his son and daughter’s.

As a member of “the greatest generation”, he provided inspiration and a can do attitude to inspire his children and grandchildren to make dreams come true. Bob loved to keep busy, he was a man of all trades, helped build/remodel many of his children’s homes, rebuild the boat landing in Eliot with his son’s, and so much more. Bob loved boating, fishing, sports, dancing and especially being with family.

Bob was the devoted husband of the late Lucille (Martel) Houde and father of the late Bill Houde. He is survived by his four son’s Edward and Norma (Orr) Houde, Albert and Janet (Bill) Houde, Denis Houde and Maurice and Connie (Dove) Houde; and two daughter’s Lorraine and Richard Wass and Denise and Michael Forsyth; one daughter-in-law Robin (Ruch) Houde; one sister-in-law Rena (Dumont) Houde, nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. We will miss his smile that never faded.

Visiting hours will be held at 9am to 10am, June 9th at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Avenue, Dover, NH followed by a 10:30 AM Mass at St. Joseph Church (the Parish of the Assumption), 150 Central Ave, Dover, NH and burial at St. Charles Cemetery in Dover, NH.
