Obituary for Robert Grey Blair Jr. Mr.

Robert Grey “Bob” Blair, Jr., 72, of Northwood, NH, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018 at home after a long battle with cancer. He was born June 13, 1946 in Pittsfield, MA to Emma (Whitman) Blair and Robert Grey Blair, Sr., and was raised on the family dairy farm in Hancock, MA. He attended high school in New Lebanon, NY, and Clarkson College now known as Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, earning a M.S in Foundation and Structural Engineering and a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Bob was employed as a project manager for several firms in the Northeast, working on such iconic projects as the Seabrook, NH, and Shoreham, NY, nuclear power stations and the restoration of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Concord, NH to name a few. In August 2014 he fulfilled a lifelong dream by establishing his own company, Clear Rivers Engineering, PLLC, offering his services as a structural engineering designs consultant. Bob retired from Pilot Construction, Inc. in December 2017, where he served as project manager for the development of several apartment complexes in NH and MA. An avid outdoorsman, Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and skiing. An ideal day would be spent on his favorite boat, "First Trout," fishing the lakes and rivers of Rangeley, Maine, fly fishing down a beautiful river in Montana or schussing down a trail on Sugarloaf or Big Sky. Bob shared his passion for skiing by becoming an indispensable leader and active member of the Seacoast Ski Club since 1986, serving twice as the club's president and for many years as manager of the annual Ski Swap. His passion was contagious as he led numerous ski trips to Maine, Montreal, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Montana and Chile. Bob was a proud member of the Million Vertical Foot Club at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and received an honorary gold belt buckle for his accomplishment. Bob also served as a trip leader and tour guide for Ski 93 Trips. Bob is survived by his wife and best friend, whom he called the “love of my life”, Peggy (Patten) Blair, of Northwood, NH.; sons Robert G. Blair, III and wife Ellen of Stoddard, NH, and Scott Blair and wife Rebecca of Concord, NH; daughter Jaime Blair and husband Jorge Mena-Ali of Lancaster, PA.; step-children Wendy Chapman and husband Robert of South Berwick, ME and Justin Philbrick and wife Heather of Florence, MT; sister Norma (Blair) Quimby and husband Donald of Hancock, MA and nephews John and Jeff Quimby who still reside on the family farm in Hancock, MA as well as Bob’s former spouse and mother of his children, Susan (Jones) Farnik of Greer, SC. Bob especially loved his eleven grandchildren: Lauren Blair, Greyson and Matthew Blair, Ivan and Emmy Mena-Blair, Gabriel, Ava and Stella Philbrick, and Oscar, Maren and Millar Chapman all of whom will miss him dearly. Family and close friends will gather privately later this summer to honor Bob and share the many ways his life touched theirs. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to oncologist Dr. Frederick Briccetti, Ray “The Marine” of Cornerstone VNA and the many other doctors, nurses, friends and family too numerous to name who aided in his care over the years. Memorial donations in Bob's name to Cornerstone VNA in Rochester, NH will celebrate the full life Bob lived. Please visit http://www.cornerstonevna.org/giving/.
