Obituary for Richard Charles "Dick" Mills
Richard Charles Mills, 84, of Lee, NH.
February 11, 1939 - November 28, 2023.
A lifelong resident of Lee, Dick was a character here in town. His artistic talent and creativity were remarkable, and this was reflected throughout all parts of his life.
He worked his father’s strawberry farm as a boy, at shoe factories, Kidder Press Industries and Walter Cheney Co. And many other jobs as a young man, eventually establishing Dick Mills Signs and Truck Lettering, the business he went on to work at and retire from. His pinstriping and lettering were iconic.
He loved cars and snowmobiles, from classics to hot rods to racing to restoration to building custom… adding wings and pipes, innovating and changing how things were done. He loved to fish all of the rivers and streams throughout N.H. And music, old country, bluegrass, old rock n roll, all of it! The records, collecting, making tapes…If you stopped in at Dickie Mills’ you might watch him paint or hear an engine turn over, there was always music, and you definitely heard a story or two!
He is survived by his 4 children, Sheila (Tom) Pettengill of Newmarket, Ramona (Cecil) Bateman of Lee, Morgan Mills of Madbury and Clinton (Jeana) Mills of Somersworth; His Brother, Dexter Mills and his sisters, Nancy and Christine Mills and Joyce (George) Gilbert; His Grandchildren, Mickey, Victoria, Jolene, Kayla, Mark, Emily, Austin, Cody, Shelly and Nina; And 13 Great Grandchildren; As well as many In-Laws and Nieces and Nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Marie (Lamothe) Mills and his parents, E. Ellen (Mariotti; Mills) Tessier and Charles R. Mills;
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at The Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Lee, NH. 03861. There will be calling hours at 10am with a service at 11am. Immediately following there will be a reception with refreshments.
