Obituary for Richard H. Keefe Mr.

Dover: Richard H. Keefe, the fourth of nine children of T. Fay and Rosa Keefe, died Thurs. Nov. 17, 2011 at the age of 96 years. He was born in Madison, ME on Sept. 4, 1915, but nearly all his life had lived in Dover, NH. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy 1928, Dover High School 1932, the University of NH 1936 and Boston University of Law 1939. He passed the NH Bar Examination in 1939 and has been a member of the NH Bar Association for the past 72 years. He practiced law with his uncle, F. Clyde Keefe, until 1942 when he enlisted in the US Naval Reserves and graduated from Midshipman School at Columbia University. He was assigned to the US Amphibious Force at Little Creek Virginia, and Fort Pierce, FL. He was later assigned to LSM School at Little Creek from which he was assigned as Executive Office to the LSM 445. He married his wife, Dora Peery in January 1945 and recently celebrated their 66th anniversary. After World War II he was appointed an Assistant United States Attorney in Concord until 1947. He was appointed Clerk of Superior Court, Strafford County, a position he held for 34 years until August 1981. After his resignation as Clerk, he practiced law for several years thereafter. He was an ardent sports fan and played baseball at Dover High School where he was Captain in 1932, played at UNH in 1933 and 1934, and later played for several years in the Dover Industrial League. He was Treasurer of the Dover Gridiron Club for twelve years and was one of the original founders of the Dover Hall of Fame. He was a member of UNH Board of Trustees from 1970-1974. He was appointed in 1970 by Governor John King as one of three commissioners for the codification and revision of the Criminal Code of the State of NH. He was a member of the Dover Post American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and Cochecho Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Dora; and two of their three children, David of Alton, NH and Dennis of Crescent City, FL; his granddaughters, Kate P. Keefe of Hartford, CT, and Jennifer Keefe of Madbury, NH; and his two sisters, Jean Brunette and Dorothy Kischitz, both of Dover. He was predeceased by his eldest son, Richard; three brothers and three sisters. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Richard’s name to the National Parkinson Foundation, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018. Respects may be paid at the church from 9-10:00am, one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial which will be held at 10:00am on Mon. Nov. 21, 2011 at the Parish of the Assumption, St. Mary’s Church, Chestnut St., Dover, with Father Fritz J. Cerullo,, O.S.A., officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dover Point Rd., Dover, NH. Arrangements are under the direction of Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, NH.
