Obituary for Richard Andrew Harris

Richard Andrew Harris

Richard “Rich” Harris, 52, was a lifelong resident of Lee, NH. After declining health with cancer, he passed away on December 17, 2022. Born on February 1, 1970, he was the only child of Joseph Andrew Harris and Mary Sielian Harris. He was predeceased by his dad.

Rich graduated from Oyster River High School in 1988 and then from the University of New Hampshire in 1992. He returned to UNH and received his master’s degree in Theater Education. During his high school and college years he developed a love of acting. Rich was in a number of performances and part of the UNH summer program, “Little Red Wagon,” bringing joy to children around the Granite State. He continued acting in dozens of productions around the seacoast areas of New Hampshire and Maine, especially with the Players Ring in Portsmouth.

Over the past 20 years he has been employed in special education at Dover High School. Among Rich’s many interests, he was an avid Red Sox fan.

Following treatment at the Seacoast Cancer Center, he received care from Wentworth Homecare and Hospice. With the help of its incredible staff, his mom, one of his aunts, Rose Sielian Theriault, and two of his cousins, Kim Servart Theriault and Henry Charles Theriault, Rich was able to remain at home for his “Final Curtain.”

Always someone who did it his way, Rich requested that no services be held. A fund in his name is being established for the benefit of UNH theater students.
