Obituary for Richard E Clark

Richard E. Clark Sr., 90, a native of New Hampshire passed in his sleep in the early morning hours of July 6th, 2023. Dick grew up in Rochester and moved to Dover where he spent many of his adult years. Dick is predeceased by his Mother Edith (Jenness) Clark, Father William J. Clark, stepfather Leo Denault and brothers Paul and William Clark. Throughout his 90-year life journey, Dick had courageously survived several experiences with cancer and most recently congestive heart failure. Through it all, he demonstrated a positive spirit, unending strength, and admirable sense of humor.

Dick is survived by the love of his life of 71 years, June Clark (Marshall), his two children Cindi Lakos and Richard Clark Jr. (Rick) and his wife Michele, his four grandchildren, Alexander Lakos, Christian Lakos and his wife Haley, Ryan Clark and his wife Stacie and Kayla Simpson (Clark) and her husband Alric. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Stella, Silas and Rowan Lakos, Sawyer, Marley and Leo Clark and Adrianna Simpson.

Following military service in the Navy as a Radarman on a destroyer during the Korean Conflict, he entered McIntosh Business College and received a degree in accounting. He began his professional career in automobile accounting at Hank and Rays but later entered the field of hospital administration at WDH for 18 years where he served as CFO. In 1978 he became the CEO of Waterville Osteopathic Hospital in Maine until 1984 when he returned to Dover to open his own accounting practice which he operated for years. He is a Past President of the NH Association of Public Accountants.

Dick first joined Dover Rotary in 1974. He has the unique distinction of serving as President of two Rotary Clubs: Waterville, Maine and Dover. He received the Rotary Foundation District Service Award in 1990. He served as District Governor in 1992/93. He is a Paul Harris Fellow. He is a past member of the Dover Jaycees and Past President of the Dover United Appeal. He also served as a trustee and Chairman of the Board for the Great Bay school in Newington, NH. Serving community was always at the foundation of work throughout Dick's life. His passion for raising money in service to those less fortunate and or to support the education of our youth was present in all his activities and joyful memories.

Dick and June's love for family was at the cornerstone of all they worked for. They were blessed to have a summer residence in Milton NH, where they made and shared many memories with their family. Later in life, they shared many occasions and celebrations with their extended family, grandchildren and more recently, great grandchildren. In addition, they had a winter residence at Fort Myers Beach in the early years and other residence, North Fort Myers where Dick enjoyed playing both golf and a competitive game of Tennis.

Throughout his life, his passion and skill for the stock market was his joy. He was a successful business investor and his skills and abilities left those who knew him best with admiration and respect for his wisdom. He was an amazingly courageous, talented, and respected gentleman who was deeply loved by all in his family who will miss his presence, compassion, and love each moment of every day.
