Obituary for Nancy J Ritchie (Ritchie)

Nancy Jane Ritchie of Somersworth New Hampshire left this world peacefully on June 21, 2021, following an arduous, nearly 2 year battle with Cancer. In her final days, we take comfort in knowing that she was surrounded by her grandchildren and children who were grateful to be by her side in her final moments.
Nancy was born in Massachusetts to the late George and Jane Ritchie. She was the third of four daughters. Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Jared Scott Edmunds and her daughter Christina Lynne Edmunds.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Nicole Keeth, Alexander Lawrence, Nicholas Lawrence, Casey McNair, Miranda McNair and Ealasaid Edmunds. Son, David Edmunds, Jr., and daughter and son-in law, Bonnie and Michael McNair. She is also survived by her three sisters, Ann Domela, Evelyn Ferland and Betsie Kilmain and many nieces and nephews.
Nancy held many jobs in her life but was perhaps most known for what became her profession as a relay truck driver in Springfield Missouri. She was always full of stories of her adventures on her big rig during her trips across the southwestern states, back and forth to Kingman Arizona. When she retired and started her treatment journey, she briefly moved to New Hampshire to start treatment and then down to North Carolina to reconnect with her sister Ann and her family down there. At the height of COVID, she spent most of her time, having fabric shipped in so she could spend her time sewing face masks which she would then sterilize and package to give away at random, hang outside her apartment for passersby or mail out to family members to ensure their safety. She continued with her mask-making, when she moved back in with daughter, Bonnie in New Hampshire to continue treatment up north, donating masks to local charities and anyone else who asked for some.
Nancy was best known for her baking wizardry, and on any given day could be found tooling away in the kitchen whipping up snacks for the grandkids or neighbors. She created a family recipe book which included recipes from many family members and went on to perfect and distribute copies among the family for Christmas. It has now been dubbed “The Family Bible” by the other cooking enthusiasts in the family.
Nancy will be remembered by all as that sassy little red head who always had a zinger on the ready and made our lives just a little sweeter with her fabulous confections and her willingness to be there for anyone who needed her. She will be sorely missed.
Services will be held on Saturday June 26,2021 at Wiggin Purdy McCooey Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave, Dover, NH at 11:00 am with a calling hour prior to the service starting at 10:00am. There will be a celebration of life directly following the service at the home of Bonnie McNair in Somersworth NH.
