Obituary for Molly May Sweeney (Tootill)
Molly May (Tootill) Sweeney passed away peacefully on December 26, 2022 surrounded by her family at her home at Wentworth Senior Living where she received loving care over the last four years
Molly was born August 26, 1929 in Etna, Maine, daughter of Phillip and Agnes Tootill. She was raised in Etna and Rockland, Maine, where she met her husband, Fernan James Sweeney. They were happily married for 54 years, spending many of those years in Dover, NH.
Molly worked for Central Maine Power, before taking on her most loved and rewarding job staying at home to raise their five children. She returned to the workforce taking employment with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. She retired in 2001.
Molly loved gardening, knitting, bridge, cribbage, camping, red wine, Sunday morning coffee with her family, and time at the beach. She especially enjoyed the company of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren whether at birthday parties, holidays, or just simple visits.
Molly was predeceased by her husband, Fernan Sweeney, her son-in-law Peter Macdonald, her brother and seven sisters and their spouses.
She is survived by her son David and his wife Wendy of Newington, NH, her daughter Agnes Macdonald of Lee, NH, her son, Francis of Biddeford, ME, her son, Robert and his wife Cheryl of Mooresville, NC, her daughter Susan Burt and her husband Gary of Derry, NH, her 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on January 4, 2023 at11:00 am at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home 655 Central Avenue, Dover, NH. Calling hours will commence one hour prior to services from 10:00 am -11:00 am. The family request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wentworth Senior Living Staff Enrichment Fund, 346 Pleasant St. Portsmouth, NH 03801.
