Obituary for Marion Smith Nossiff (SMITH) Mrs.

Marion Smith Nossiff, age 95, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 7, 1924, she was the daughter of Rev. Crawford O. Smith, and Laura (Davis) Smith. A Seven Sister alumna, she received a BA in English from Radcliffe College and a Masters Degree in History from Smith College. Married to Dr. George S. Nossiff in 1952, their family lived in Milford, Massachusetts until his retirement in 1967. The family then moved to Dover where she lived for the next 53 years. A true Daughter of the American Revolution, Marion grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, the daughter of a Baptist minister, not far from the historic Lexington green. One of her Davis ancestors was among the first to fall in the battle of Lexington and Concord. Marion was an engaged and enthusiastic teacher at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts, the Mary A. Burnham School, Hopedale High School, Dover Jr. High School, Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and MacIntosh College. Marion was an active member of the DAR, First Parish Church, the Ad Hoc Committee, the swim group at The Works, and bridge club. She volunteered at the Milford Whitinsville Hospital for many years and the American Cancer Society. She loved her time at Lake Winnipesaukee, Tiverton, Rhode Island and cherished her lifelong memories of the family summer home in York Beach, Maine. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. George S. Nossiff, her brother, Rev. Charles C. Smith and his wife Connie. She is survived by her son, Alexander G. Nossiff and his wife Stephanie of Dover, and her daughter, Essie Nossiff Powers and her husband James of Cape Neddick, Maine, and four grandchildren, Christopher, Dan, Abigail and Lillian. The family extends enormous gratitude to the team at Hyder House for their compassionate care. Memorial contributions can be made to the Hyder Family Hospice in Dover.
