Obituary for Marianne Kilpatrick (Stanley)

August 5, 1927 - November 6, 2023
Marianne (Stanley) Kilpatrick passed away peacefully at home on November 6. She was born in Concord N.H. on August 5, 1927 to John Stanley and Henrietta (Powell) Stanley.
Growing up, Marianne and her brother John Stanley enjoyed summers on Lake Winnisquam were she was always boating and playing with her dog, Chingi, and pet goose, Sammy. She recalls playing right field on the boys summer baseball team and how she would have loved to have been able to play on the many girl’s sports teams of today. Years later, she could strike out her sons John and Gary (and their friends) with her left handed curveball and beat them at basketball and ping pong.
After attending Fisher College in Boston, Marianne joined the Navy and attended training in Michigan before being stationed at a base on the East coast where she met Jack Kilpatrick from Defuniak Springs Florida. They were married just before Jack was deployed overseas. She recalled spending days at the beach with Jack and other Navy couples prior to his deployment.
After being stationed at military bases along the East coast, Marianne and Jack settled in Barrington, N.H. in 1968 and she began working at Pease Air Base while Jack worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard after retiring from the Navy. She eventually worked for the Air Force Office of Special Investigation. Both Marianne and Jack joined the American Legion after retiring and enjoyed participating in the Legion’s fund raising events like the annual Barrington Antique Truck Show. An avid knitter, Marianne would knit gloves, hats, socks and sweaters for local craft shows and Christmas presents.
Not able to sit still in retirement, Marianne started a second career working at Advance Pump & Filter in Barrington, where she continued to make friends in the community and play practical jokes before again retiring at age 90.
Marianne always had a deep love of dogs. Her many dogs over the years were often rescue dogs, many of them chihuahuas, which she and Jack loved to spoil.
Marianne is survived by her sons John of Barrington and Gary and daughter-in-law, Jane of Acton, MA, her six grandsons Joel, Dan, Andrew, Shawn, Ryan and Michael and seven great grandchildren Luke, Noah, Joshua, Eli, Izzy, Judah and Moses.
A graveside service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery on Route 9 in Barrington on Saturday, November 18 beginning promptly at 10:30 a.m. immediately followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at the family cottage on Mendums Pond in Barrington. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the NH SPCA on-line or at PO Box 196, Stratham N.H. 03885.
