Obituary for Marcia Jean Stockman (Stockman)
Marcia Jean Stockman
1946 – 2022
On Wednesday, December 22, 2022, Marcia Jean Stockman of Epsom, NH, loving mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 76. Marcia was born on July 27, 1946, in Haverhill, NH to Kenneth and Theo Stockman. She graduated from Pembroke Academy, Pembroke, NH and attended nursing school at the NH State Hospital School of Nursing. Marcia was a Navy wife for over a decade and resided in states on both coasts and in between. After returning to NH, she embarked on careers in medical transcription and medical administration. She spent most of this time with Epsom Family Medicine, formerly Pittsfield Medical Center and retired in 2011. She lived a quiet, content life but under the surface Marcia was as resilient as they come having raised three kids on her own and survived breast cancer at the age of 39. Yet she was sentimental as demonstrated by her love of antiques and romance novels and devotion to her grandchildren. Not a holiday or special occasion would go by without a card in the mail including a crisp $5 bill or a perfectly wrapped gift topped with a handmade bow. Marcia had an unparalleled work ethic coupled with a selflessness that permeated all areas of her life. She would often work overtime and weekends at her various jobs, but her children remember most the hours she spent driving them to sports and school events or working late into the night perfecting Halloween costumes, dance recital costumes and school projects just in the nick of time. Marcia enjoyed engaging in long, personal conversations with people. She loved to tell stories about her family. She loved to hear others’ stories. She could recall the smallest of details from these connections much to people’s delight. It was her way of preserving family memories and carrying them forward into the future. She made them feel important, not to be forgotten.
Marcia is survived by her son Andrew Hodgins and his daughter Penelope, her daughter Victoria Best, her son-in-law David Best and their children Simon and Landon. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Bartlett. Marcia is predeceased by her parents, her son Matthew Hodgins and daughter-in-law Samantha Wright.
Growing up, Marcia enjoyed flying in her father’s airplane high over the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This will be her final resting place and there will be no formal memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society.
