Obituary for Linda L Joy (Joy)

Linda L Joy

DOVER: Linda Lee Joy, 78, previously of Somersworth, NH passed on October 8, 2022, at Riverside Rest Home with her 2 youngest daughters at her side, after a lengthy battle with dementia.

She was born on September 29, 1944, in Sanford, Maine; the daughter of William Alonzo Joy and Constance Yvonne (Michaud) Nielsen.

Linda was multi-talented and loved to do so many things. Her favorite thing was to dance to country music – and she did this up to her very last days – shaking her tushy every chance she was able. Our mother was very skillful with all she set her mind to. A few of them were but not limited to: crocheting, knitting, sewing her daughter’s clothes and Halloween costumes, decorating cakes, gardening, and so much more. She collected owls and Native American possessions for many years. Her hobbies and passions were too endless for us to name them all.

Linda worked at most shoe shops in the area before going on to GFS, Clarostat, and Simplex before finding her passion as a CNA. She had the kindest heart which led her to the career of caring for others, and this is how she came to accept going into Riverside Rest Home when long-term care became apparent.

Linda is survived by her daughters: Christina (Billy) Campbell of North Carolina; Dawn Michele Ainsworth of Arkansas, Laurie Ainsworth and Billie-Jo Ainsworth of New Hampshire. She is survived by her grandchildren Steven, Anthony, Erica, Dale, Veronica, Austin, Caden and Zander, as well as 3 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; cousins and friends.

She was pre-deceased by her parents and her siblings: David, Sharon, Veronica, Simone and William. She was also pre-deceased by her grandson, Lance Thomas Lord.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name by mail to Dementia Society of America PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901; or Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation at alzdiscovery.org

Her daughters would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Riverside Rest Home for the years of care and love shown to our mother throughout her long-term care.

A celebration of life will be held in 2023 in hopes that you will be able to celebrate along with us. Once we have more details and a date, we will provide updated information. A private interment service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, South Berwick, Maine for the immediate family only at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, NH. To sign our online guestbook, please go to www.purdyfuneralservice.com
