Obituary for Lewis Evangelos Janetos Mr.

Lewis Evangelos Janetos, 91, of Rollinsford, NH passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family on Saturday, September 22, 2018. Lewis was born on November 29, 1926 in his home that was built in the 1820s by his great, great grandfather Lorenzo Rollins. Lewis was a graduate of Dover High School in 1944 and University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1949. Lewis proudly served the country he loved for four years in the US Army Signal Corps during the Korean war attaining the rank of first lieutenant at his honorable discharge. He was employed from 1949-1965 by General Electric in Lynn, MA and Somersworth, NH. In 1959, Lewis and his brothers started a manufacturing company which they named Janco in Rollinsford, NH. Janco, Janco Electronics and J-Pac were recognized in the plastic fabrication industry for creating innovative design solutions in protective athletic equipment, medical packaging and printed circuit boards. Lewis devoted his life to his work at Janco and retired as President and Chairman of the Board of Janco Electronics. Lewis served the local community as an active Rotarian, Selectman of the town of Rollinsford, a founding board member of Strafford Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), 64 year attendee/50 year member of First Parish United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Somersworth, NH and proud member of the Honorary Engineering Society, Tau Beta Pi, and Military Officer Association (MOAA). He was the recipient of the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Center for Family Business and 2012 Certificate of Appreciation from the New Hampshire Farm Museum. Lewis became the first recipient of the ARCH Heritage Award in 2012 and of The Lewis E. Janetos Strafford County Economic Development Leadership Award from SEDC which was named in honor of him. Lewis met the love of his life, Eleanore Lucille Stolpe, while attending Officer Candidate School in Kansas. They were married in Topeka, Kansas and would have celebrated their 67th anniversary, on the 25th of November this year. They resided in San Luis Obispo, CA, West End, NJ and Little Nahant, MA before returning to Rollinsford. Most important to Lewis was his family. He was predeceased by his parents Ellen Janetos (Wentworth) and Evangelos Janetos; son William L. Janetos; sister Mary Bandouveres and Barbara Johansen; brothers George E. and Andrew E. Janetos, sister Anna Janetos Laws, sisters-in-law Christina Janetos and Marjorie Janetos and brothers-in-law George Bandouveres, Andrew Matyas, Walter Laws, Jack Stanley and Donald Johansen. Lewis is survived by his wife Eleanore Janetos (Stolpe); son Rollins L. and wife Jean of Rollinsford, NH; two daughters Julie and husband Richard Hurley of Rollinsford, NH and Donna and husband Stephen Ferranti of Bedford, NH; nine grandchildren Lewis and wife Drew Janetos, Paul and Matthew Janetos, Amanda, Leo and William Hurley, Charles and wife Litza Ferranti, Samuel and Sara Ferranti; two great grandchildren Maria and Evelyn Janetos; brother Paul and his wife Robin Janetos; sister-in-law Eleanor Janetos; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Lewis loved the outdoors and meticulously cared for his beautiful property, Spruce Tree Farm. An expert fly fisherman he looked forward to annual trips with family and friends to fish for Atlantic salmon on the Eagle River in Labrador, Canada. He tapped up to 60 sugar maples using sap buckets and had his own evaporation equipment. He tended an orchard of over 65 varieties of heritage apples known for its uniqueness and the unsurpassed flavor of his hand-pressed cider. Lewis was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and employer. Always extending a hand of welcome and wanting to know the origin of one’s surname so he could quickly relate to a new acquaintance. He was generous beyond belief. A truly well-lived life and well-loved man. Visitation hours at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, N.H. on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 4 – 7pm. Memorial service at First Parish UCC Congregational Church, 176 West High Street, Somersworth, NH. at 10am on Friday, September 28, 2018. Burial will be at New Town Cemetery, Rollinsford, NH.
