Obituary for Kathleen Rita Goodwin

Kathleen Rita Goodwin (nee Hughes) of 40 Chestnut Street, Dover, peacefully passed away at
her home on Monday, May 23, 2022, after a short illness. Kathleen was born on November 18,
1930, in Dover and was raised by her grandparents, Harry and Christina Hughes (nee Murphy).
She attended local schools. In 1947 she married Frank Goodwin and together they raised seven
children. She was married to Frank for 64 years. The Goodwin household was always filled with
music and kids. The door was always open for her children’s friends and there was always room
at the table for one, or 10, more. To her departing day she was known as Ma to these unofficial
family members. For the adult friends a rotating, laugh filled and raucous weekend card game,
usually accompanied by a boiled lobster and clam “suppah” was de rigor.
In her later years Kathleen loved travel and she and Frank spent winters with friends and family
in Florida, Hawaii and Asia. They traveled far and wide visiting numerous places in the United
States as well as Canada, England and Ireland. She enjoyed playing cards four or five times per
week, visiting casinos and spending time with her children in Florida, at Milton Lake, Lake
Winnipesaukee and York Beach. She was a rabid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan
and on game days could usually be found in front of her gigantic wide screen TV cheering them
on.
Kathleen is survived by her son Robert and wife Leslie of Bar Harbor, Maine, Susanne Picard
and husband Richard of Eliot Maine, Donna Geaudreau and husband Alfred (Ed) of South
Berwick, Maine, Judy Swett and husband David of Summerfield, Florida, Sharon Dionne and
Nancy Joyce both of Berwick, Maine as well as 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2
great, great grandchildren.
Kathleen was a warm, kind and generously giving person who will be sorely missed by her
family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Frank I. Goodwin and her son Richard F. Goodwin as well
as two grandsons.
Friends and family may call from 12:00pm-1:30 pm with a memorial service starting at 1:30pm at Wiggin Purdy McCooey Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, NH; with Father Agapit Jean, officiating. Interment will be held directly after the service at the Evergreen Cemetery in Berwick, ME.
