Obituary for Joseph "Larry" Jacques

Joseph “Larry “ Jacques (October 20, 1931 – October 3, 2018) Gonic, NH: Joseph “ Larry” Jacques, 86, died Wednesday, October 3, 2018, surrounded by his children, after a period of failing health. Larry was born in Stratton, ME on October 20, 1931, the son of the late Donat T. and Antoinette (Begin) Jacques and had been living in the area since 1942. Larry was a US Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War and receiving a Bronze star for his courageous actions. After serving his country, he returned to his home in Gonic, where he worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 26 years and was happily married to his wife Violet Doyon Jacques for 53 years, with whom he raised his four children and two step sons. After his retirement, Larry enjoyed his portable sawmill and wood working in his shop. He also enjoyed spending time at his camp in Dummer, NH with his family. Larry always looked forward to his hunting and fishing trips in Canada with his “other brothers”. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Members of his family include his son James Jacques of Gonic, N.H., his daughters; Donna John and husband David of Wilson Mills, M.E., Jane Calef and husband Jere of Barrington, N.H., step-son Michael Amero, his grandchildren; Casey Malo and husband Jim, Jesse Jacques, Cory Paradis, Jana Lovejoy and husband Ned, Jolene Tobey and husband Channing, Kelsey Calef, Alyssa Calef and 9 great-grandchildren, as well as his sister, Lise Cossette. He was predeceased by his wife, Violet Jacques, his son, Laurence “Boo” Jacques, step-son, John Amero, his brother, Donat “Ace” Jacques and parents. There will be no funeral services per Larry’s request but a Celebration of His Life will be held on his birthday, Saturday, October 20th at Jane and Jere Calef’s house, 392 Scruton Pond Road, Barrington, NH from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The family would like to thank Cornerstone VNA Hospice for their care of Larry.
