Obituary for John F McGillicuddy

John Francis McGillicuddy
June 26, 1943 - October 7, 2023

John Francis McGillicuddy, born in Killarney, Co. Kerry, Ireland on June 26, 1943, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded in love by his family, on October 7, 2023.

John immigrated with his family from Ireland to the United States. They settled in Somerville, MA. One of his proudest moments was becoming a US Citizen. John served four years in the US Army National Guard. John was a cement finisher by trade. Early in his career he worked at the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant in Seabrook, NH and later retired from The Prudential in Boston, Ma. He was a proud member of Local Union 534. He met his wife, Gloria Duffy, in 1963 and they married in 1966. They resided in Massachusetts for the first 12 years of marriage before buying their forever home, in Northwood, NH.

He enjoyed Irish football, ballroom dancing and bowling in his younger years. He loved a great game of cribbage, was always full of shenanigans and ready with a quick-witted response. Given the opportunity, he would eagerly recite the 50 state capitals and the 32 counties of Ireland. John loved vegetable gardening and landscaping, fishing, family dinners and holidays, camping and annual Cape-Cod family vacations. He was an avid Patriots fan and watched every Super Bowl ever played. Above all, his greatest pride was his wife, children, and grandchildren.

John is pre-deceased by his daughter, Katherine McGillicuddy-Herron, parents, Daniel and Catherine (Healy) McGillicuddy, and his siblings, Margaret ‘Peggy’ Flynn, Tena Maunsell, Timothy McGillicuddy, and Daniel Brendan McGillicuddy.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, John is survived by his 5 daughters, Kerry McGillicuddy-Allen, Kara McGillicuddy-McKay (James McKay), Kristine McGillicuddy-Tuttle (Richard Tuttle), Kimberley McGillicuddy, Kaitlin McGillicuddy-Pevear (Ronald Pevear), his 15 grandchildren, Anna, Rebeccah, Elizabeth, Nikolas, Alexis, Madison, Morgan, Rylan, Erin, Mason, Rachel, Audrey, Marlee, Tucker and Carter, and 7 great-grandchildren, Merritt, Alexander, Willow, Owen, Rosalie, Isla ‘Watson’ and Jack. They will all miss their ‘Papa-Man’.
Siblings Mary Bailey (Jeremiah Bailey) and Noreen Kierce (Patrick Kierce) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are Sunday, October 15th, 2023 from 3:00-6:00, at Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Lee, N.H. In honoring his wishes, a private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Amedisys Home Care & Hospice at Amedisys.com.
