Obituary for Jacqueline A McKenney (LaBonte)

Jackie McKenney
July 10, 1936 – January 14, 2024

Jacqueline McKenney, 87, passed peacefully early Sunday after a long period of failing health.

Born on July 10, 1936 to George and Lillian (Morin) LaBonte, Jackie was a lifelong resident of Dover. She attended St. Charles School and was a 1954 graduate of Dover High. Although her most notable career was as a stay-at-home mom in the 1960s and 70s, she worked at Public Service of NH (Eversource), The A and P grocery store and enjoyed a return to full-time employment at Liberty Mutual after her family was grown.

Jackie was known for her gentle ways, her love of fun and enjoying a good laugh with family and friends. Attending all of her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, band performances and dance recitals and a supporter of DHS athletics for many years, Jackie loved to be on the go. She especially enjoyed many years of traveling to Aruba with her husband, Owen and close friends, Eva and Paul “Doc” Dachsteiner. She spent many summers at Terrace Pines campgrounds in Ossipee, NH. She never met a dessert she didn’t care for - notably she was especially fond of a Harvey’s maple round or Bismarck and a good Lone Oak ice cream. At any family occasion she was much more interested in what was for dessert than what was for dinner.

She was married for 53 years to Owen P. McKenney, Sr. who passed in 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Barbone and husband, Joseph of Atkinson, NH; four sons, Peter, of Dover, Michael and his wife Valerie of Barrington, NH, David, of Dover, and James and his wife, Darcy of Rochester, NH. Her nine grandchildren will all dearly miss their Memere. They are Patrick McKenney, Taylor McKenney, Jacqueline McKenney-Casey (Tyler), Jessica Barbone-Davis (Wes), Spencer McKenney, Michael Barbone, Derek Scott, Reegan McKenney and Delaney McKenney. In addition, Jackie had four great grandchildren, Emily, Lily, Jack and George, and a fifth, Owen, coming in May, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the outstanding care that Jackie received over the past months at Riverside Rest Home from the Unit 5 and activities staff.

At the family’s request, donations in Jackie’s memory may be made to the Activities Fund at Riverside Rest Home, 276 County Farm Road, Dover, NH.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 4-7 pm at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home at 655 Central Ave. Dover, NH 3820. A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Father Agapit Jean will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 11:30 at St. Mary’s Church, 25 Chestnut Street Dover, NH 03820
