Obituary for Irene A Fagan (Grenier)

Irene A Fagan, 96 of Dover NH passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, with loving family by her side and in spirit.

Irene "Annie" Grenier was born on Friday July 2, 1926. The daughter of the late Hector Grenier (a local cotton weaver) and Georgianna Boulet Grenier. She would later change her middle name to Ann since she was never fond of "Annie".

She was married to her Husband Donald Arthur Fagan on Monday, November 6, 1950, at St Mary's Church and remained lifelong residents of Dover NH. They would have a family and work in the local area. Irene was a bright and ambitious woman, and even without the benefit of a High School Diploma, she would carve out a career that she was proud of. She began in a secretarial capacity at the Dover Court House, originally located on 2nd St in Dover. She would work her way to becoming the Deputy City Clerk of Dover for many years. She loved walking and would walk to work daily - perhaps ahead of her time reaping the health benefits of exercise. She was well respected in her community and was held in high esteem with her City Hall Colleagues and "work family".

Irene was a very proud and loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother, who also kept a special place in her heart for her several pets through the years. She will be most remembered for her Fashion Sense and her Calm and Demure nature. She was a soft-spoken woman of few words and was not always forthcoming with the quick wit she possessed. Irene loved her family and friends and took pride in her gardening skills and was charitable in her community. In her senior years, Irene would become an honorary member of the Sullivan family. She would be warmly welcomed into their homes sharing holidays and special events. Irene was a devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church and a communicant of St Mary's Church in Dover.

Irene was the last surviving member of her five siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 51 years, Donald on Tuesday, December 18, 2001, her beloved son James (Jim) on Saturday, August 17, 2002, and her daughter Patricia Ann, who became an angel soon after her birth on June 20, 1957.

Irene leaves us to cherish her memories and is survived by her only grandchild, her grandson Samuel (Sam) J. Fagan of Barrington NH, her niece Linda Sullivan and husband Peter and grand-niece Alexis Sullivan and James Ferguson and her great grand-niece Gwendolyn Sullivan - collectively caring for Irene in her home for many years. Her grand-nephew Jake Sullivan. Her niece April Gauthier of Salisbury MA. and April's children Misty and Shane. Many Nieces, Nephews and their children and grandchildren.

A very special thank you to the staff at the Wentworth Homecare and Hospice for their support and gentle care, and to Irene's neighborhood family, she often spoke of their kindness toward her and family members.

Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, between 4-6:30pm at the Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Lee NH.

Prayer Service beginning at 5pm with Father Aggie officiating. Pre-recorded Music sung by and presented by close family friend Elizabeth LeBrun Barcomb who will be in attendance. Gathering will follow within the chapel.
