Obituary for Gertrude Brouady (Wester)

Gertrude T. Brouady
February 16, 1941 – December 16, 2022

On December 16, 2022, Gertrude T. Brouady passed away at the age of 81. Gertrude was born in Boston, MA to Theodore and Roberta Wester. As a child, her parents supported her love of music, especially the piano. As a young girl she performed at recitals and also had the opportunity to play on the radio. Gertrude lived a full life as a child growing up in Waltham, MA. As an adult, she graduated from Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio with a degree in education, her first passion. At this point she moved back to Massachusetts. She taught in an elementary school for a few years, but then decided to merge her love of teaching with her love of music. Next, she decided to start her career as a piano teacher. She taught and impacted hundreds of students for 15+ years. Students to this day are thankful for her masterful instruction and encouragement. She would have recitals every year allowing children, and a few adults, to showcase what they have learned. This was a golden period for her. Her love of music not only rubbed off on her students, but also her son, Chris. She nurtured her son with his education and activities, especially music. She taught him piano for 6 years, arranged for weekly trumpet lessons for 8 years, and took him to countless classical concerts. Her son attributes his love for music to this day due to his Mom.

Once she retired, she turned her attention to her hobbies, which included gardening and art. At one point she tended to a one-third acre garden with 23 varieties of vegetables. The neighbors always looked forward to the surplus of Gertrude’s yearly harvest. Eventually she moved to NH and settled in Barrington. She embraced spending her days outdoors gardening, as well as maintaining her home, which kept her busy and in great shape. She loved her colorful varieties of flowers. Her son has many fond memories of helping Gertrude with the landscaping.

Gertrude loved seeing her granddaughters. They also helped her around the house and with the gardening while telling her stories about school and all their activities. There was true delight in her eyes when they were there for a visit. She was able to see them turn into strong, passionate and loving teenagers.

No one has a perfect life, and Gertrude was no different. She made the best of it and above all, on her own terms. The family was there to support her when she needed us the most. She was thankful to have a full and independent life.

Gertrude is survived by her son Christopher Brouady, his wife Karen and their daughters Hannah and Amanda.

Gertrude will forever be in our hearts and minds during this difficult time. The family will be celebrating her life privately. In lieu of flowers or condolence gifts we ask that a donation be made to the Seacoast Mental Health Center: https://smhc-nh.org/donate-now/
