DOVER: George Kageleiry, a resident of Riverside Rest Home in Dover, formerly of 5 Hancock Street in Dover, passed away on August 27, 2014 after a period of failing health. George was the fifth of nine children of Charles and Diamond (Bograkos) Kageleiry. He was born on July 25, 1927 in Dover. George was a 1945 graduate of Dover High School and was an active member of the reunion committee for many years. George managed the family restaurant, The Kageleiry Spa, fondly remembered as “Kagie’s” on Washington Street in Dover from the early 1940’s through the mid-1970’s. Later, he was employed by the New Hampshire State Liquor Commission for over 16 years, retiring in 1992. George was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Dover, serving on the Board of Directors in 1960, and the Canata Club which was responsible for building the Church Picnic Grounds on Longhill Road. George was also a member of the following organizations: Odds Fellows Lodge; Life Member of the Dover Lodge of Elks #184 (66 year member), Exalted Ruler (1954-55), Past Trustee; Strafford Lodge of Masons #29 and York Rite Bodies of Rochester Chapter Council; AHEPA; Lacones Society; Loyal Order of Moose; Polish Club; State of New Hampshire Retirees Association; Past President Dover Gridiron Club; Volunteer Dover Food Pantry. George had a multitude of friends and had an exceptional memory. He was called upon often to answer questions pertaining to Dover history and Dover sports history. George is survived by his brothers James (Frances), Harry (Barbara), Gregory (Catherine) all of Dover, Peter (Jane) of Derry, a sister Mary Yannekis (Jim) of Concord and a siter-in-law, Stasia Kageleiry of Somersworth. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews and three Goddaughters. George was predeceased by his wife Catharine (Mourmouras), parents, Charles and Diamond, brothers, Zacharias and Nicholas, sister, Sophie Chamberlain. Our family would like to extend our deepest thanks and gratitude for the wonderful attention and care given to George at both the Wentworth Home and the Riverside Rest Home during his stay in both facilities. Family flowers requested only, Memorial donations may be made in George’s name to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation Cemetery Fund, 93 Locust Street, Dover, NH, 03820 or to a charity of one’s choice. Friends and family may call from 5:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 with a Trisagion Service to be held at 5:15pm and an Elk’s Service to be held at 7:00pm at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, NH. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 11:00am at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation at 93 Locust Street, Dover, NH with Father Costin Popescu and Father Arthur Athans, co-officiating.
