Obituary for Frank Nelson Leichthammer

Frank Leichthammer
January 25, 1946-January 7, 2024

Frank Leichthammer passed away on January 7, 2024, after a courageous multi-year battle with cancer. Frank was born in Norristown, PA, on January 25, 1946, the son of Frank O. Leichthammer and Margaret Nelson Leichthammer. Frank leaves behind his beloved wife, Laurie Leichthammer, four children Mark, Carl, Andrew, and Ali, and five grandchildren, Andrew, Luke, Charlie, Abbie, and Cameron. Frank was cherished deeply by all as the patriarch and the rock of the family. He also leaves his sons and daughter in law, Bill, Tom, Nina, and Chach; his sister Peggy Domber and nephews.

He grew up loving sports and music. He was proud of his perfect attendance at Sunday School and carried his faith with him throughout his life. At Waynesburg College he was the life of the party at Theta Chi. Frank was a patriot and loved our country. After college he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Scheinfurt, Germany as a First Lieutenant where he ran the Officer’s Club.

Following his tour of duty, he moved to Ohio where he had his twin boys, Mark and Carl, with their mother Anne. He moved to Longmeadow, MA in 1983 and then purchased his own business, specializing in metal roofing. He ran his business for over 40 years and formed deep friendships with his customers. When his boys were 11, he met Laurie, the love of his life, and her two children, Andrew and Ali. The six became a family when they got married in 1991. Frank instilled in his kids the beliefs that hard work and education are of the utmost importance. He brought them to church and gave them the gift of faith. He coached sports, taught them how fix things, participated in Boy Scout camping trips and events, taught them how to save money, built tree forts and backyard ice rinks, helped with math homework and built dioramas. He always provided the best for his family, working late, climbing ladders on job sites, and renovating every inch of their 1820’s farmhouse himself.

Frank and Laurie moved to Dover, NH in 2014 where he learned how to lobster in the Piscataqua River, enjoyed time with family, and exploring the Seacoast with Laurie.

The past few years, Franks role as Pepa became one of his greatest joys. Frequent babysitter, lap holder, school picker-upper, and recipient of countless crafts and love notes, Pepa was nothing short of beloved to his grands.

He will be sorely missed by his children, grandchildren, and bride. Frank was one of a kind through and through. He has a jovial sense of humor and was a friend to all of those he encountered. These qualities and a heart full of love carried him through his last days.
The family will have a celebration of life in the Spring.

In remembrance of Frank’s life, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project: support.woundedwarriorpr.org.
