Obituary for Francis C. Vincent Mr.

Somersworth NH: Francis C Vincent (Vince), 89, of 14 Central St. died on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at his home with his family and friends by his side after a brief illness. He was born on March 22, 1925 in Nashua, NH; the son of Arthur J Vincent and Marie (Poulin) Vincent. Vince graduated from Somersworth High School in 1943. He then enlisted in the United States Army and was a WWII veteran; he attended school for watch maker in Pittsburgh PA. Upon return to Somersworth in 1948 Vince opened Vincent’s Jewelry Store which he operated on High Street until 1961. In 1962 he went to work at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in calibration until he retired in 1985. After retiring Vince worked odd jobs, which included Midway Buick. Vince was involved with many organizations in the Somersworth community; As a Charter Member of the Somersworth Lions Club from 1948 (until his death); he served as President, Secretary, Third Vice and Zone Chairman. He was a 69 year member of the Somersworth American Legion Post #69, holding numerous positions there. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He served on the Somersworth Planning and Zoning Board for 55 years, serving as Chairman for several years. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans; a member of the 40 and 8th Club. He served on the House of Representatives for the State of NH for 12 years. He was awarded by the LGC Award for Volunteerism, given to a recipient each year for their service to the community. Francis is survived by his son, Daniel A Vincent of Somersworth, daughter, Susan M Lezon of Federal Way, WA and son, Kenneth S Vincent of Somersworth; and his sister, Agnus Nelson of Zepherhills, FL; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 2 nieces and 1 nephew. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 47 years, June Anne Vincent in July 2011; his parents, and his brother, Arthur J Vincent (15) in March 1935. The family would like to send our deepest thanks to Vince’s best friend, Mike Hall, who has always been there with him, and to Maureen Venne, who helped with the homecare of Vince. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Vince’s name to Somersworth Lions Club, 135 West High Street, Somersworth, NH 03878. Friends and family may call from 5-7:00pm on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home 655 Central Ave, Dover, NH. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at St. Martin’s Church of St. Ignatius, of Loyola Parish, with Father Michael Taylor, officiating.
