Obituary for Ernest W. Clark Jr.

Ernest W. Clark Jr. (11/26/1943 - 9/9/2023)

Born at Exeter Hospital to Ernest W. Clark, Sr. and Viola G. Clark of Barrington, NH.

Ernest W. Clark Jr. or as he was known to his favorite people, “Grumpy” passed away peacefully on Saturday September 9th after a short battle with Cancer.

Grumpy lived almost his entire life in the town of Barrington where he attended Barrington Schools and Spaulding High School. He joined the Army shortly after High School and was assigned to the MP division where he served a majority of his time in South Korea helping to guard the border. Grumpy then met the love of his life Susan (Sue) Hatch and they were married in 1965. They raised two sons Gerry and Gregg and remained happily together until her death in 2016. Together, they built a legacy in our small town. Touching lives with small gestures of kindness and respect that made them both the special people they were. Grumpy worked for most of his life at Moore Business Forms in Dover, NH where he made many friends through the years. He retired at age 62 so he could enjoy life.

Grumpy was an integral part of the Barrington Youth Association and served as a board member for more than 25 years and as a Coach for 38 years. During his time coaching both Babe Ruth Baseball and Senior Babe Ruth Baseball he won several championships and received many awards but the most important thing to him was always the kids, helping them learn lessons about life (usually with humor involved) and passed on a great deal of wisdom to more than 500 players over the years.

The crowning achievement of Grumpy’s life was when he became a Grandfather to 3 amazing girls Emily, Lorelei and Willow. Grumpy was always happiest when he got to spend time with any or all of them and his favorite times were watching them play sports. Grumpy would always sit and cheer loudly whenever they played and has been a fixture at the BYA for years after he finished coaching.

Grumpy is survived by his sister Susan Ross and her Husband Ronnie of Bradenton, Fl; Their Daughter Robin McCoy, her Husband Loren and their daughter Caylee. His Brother John Clark of Barrington, NH; His two sons and their children; Gerry, his wife Noelle and daughters Lorelei and WIllow of Deerfield, NH; Gregg, his wife Kathy and their daughter Emily of Barrington, NH as well as many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
