Obituary for Elizabeth L Brown

Elizabeth Louise (Cochrane) Brown, passed away Friday, July 19th, 2019 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Born October 3rd, 1940 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she was predeceased by her parents, Helen Elizabeth (Rhoads) Cochrane, Earl Seymour Cochrane, her brother Earle Rhoads Cochrane, and her loving husband of 45 years at the time of his passing, F. Lyle Brown. Betty, or Betsey, as she was known to family and friends, grew up in Belmont, Massachusetts. She was a past Worthy Advisor of the Belmont Assembly IORG. A communications major, she met her husband while she was working in radio in Framingham, Massachusetts, and together they began a grand adventure. They lived in San Antonio, TX, Manhattan, NY and later Poplar Bluff, MO, where she was active with the Jaycees and had her first daughter. Moving back to Massachusetts in 1969, they chose to settle in Essex, Massachusetts, where she had her second daughter, and volunteered with the Lions Club and the Friends of the Library. Betsey loved raising her family on the lake in Essex, and enjoyed all of the wonderful years there, golfing at Bass Rocks in Gloucester, summers spent at Wingaersheek beach and sailing with her husband and girls, first in Essex and Gloucester, then later in Beverly, Massachusetts, Miami, Florida, Clearwater Florida and many of the islands. In 1997 she moved to York, Maine, where she enjoyed spending time with her husband, grandsons and daughters, continuing to travel and sail with her beloved husband and their friends, and enjoying weekends up in the White Mountains of North Conway, NH. An avid reader, she could often be found with her nose in a book. Betsey adored her family, and is survived by her two daughters; Tracey E. Brown of Woodstock, Georgia, and her husband Bill Brown; her daughter Whitney L. Pogorek of Strafford, New Hampshire, and her husband John Pogorek, her three grandchildren Maxwell B. Day, Rory E. Day and Jackson M. Douglas, and her 4 step-grandchildren Megan Turgeon, Jacob Pogorek, , Jenna Pogorek and Jason Pogorek. She is also survived by her loving sister-in-law Irene F. Cochrane of Acton, Massachusetts, 4 nieces and 2 nephews, along with their 6 children, and their 7 children. She is also survived by several cousins. Betsey and her infectious laugh will be missed by many. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, August 10th, 12-3PM, Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Lee, New Hampshire.
