Obituary for Edwin M. Paine Jr.

On October 24, 2018 Edwin M. Paine Jr., age 90, of Brooksville, Florida went to Heaven after succumbing to cancer while visiting his family in New Hampshire. Born in Saratoga Springs, New York on February 26, 1928, he was the son of Edwin M Paine Sr. and Ethel (Davis) Paine. Ed was a WWII Veteran, one of the last of our Greatest Generation. He joined the national/state guard in 1944 and left the guard to join the Naval Reserve. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served in the Pacific Theater with his three brothers. He was on active duty from 1945 to 1946 on the USS Princeton CB37. He participated in the commission of the ship in 1945 and assisted with its closing after WWII and received a certificate as a plank owner of the USS Princeton. He remained in the US Naval Reserve until 1951. He was proud of his patriotic family. His father served in the Navy in WWI. Two great grandfathers, three great uncles and cousins served our country in the American Revolution beginning at the Battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775. After the war, he earned his commercial pilot’s license and worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a Supply Cataloger until his retirement. Ed and his wife Ruth retired to Florida in 1979 where he enjoyed golfing and fishing with his friends. For the past 17 years they lived in Brookridge, and as born-again Christians, they enjoyed many friendships and attended church and Bible studies. Ed is survived by Ruth his devoted wife and best friend of 69 years and was looking forward to their 70th wedding anniversary in May. He was proud of his children Mark Paine, Wendy Locke and Pamela Durkee, his grandsons Joseph and Timothy Locke and his great grandchildren Jada Locke and Heidi and Abigail Locke. He is survived by his brother Robert Paine, sister Shirley FitzGerald and his beloved dog Jake. He loved them all, and he will be greatly missed. Ed will be laid to rest beside his infant daughter, Faith Ruth Paine at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Dover, N.H. on November 5, 2018 at 1:30 P.M.
