Obituary for Edward Bruce Kolifrath

Edward Bruce Kolifrath, 87, of Pinewood Dr., Strafford, NH, died peacefully on July 14, 2021, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH, with his family by his side.

Edward was born in Boston, Massachusetts; the son of Albert and Margaret (Fitzmaurice) Kolifrath. He served in the United States Navy after graduating from Boston English High School. He went on to become a science teacher and guidance counselor in the Clinton Public School System for many years. In his free time he loved being outdoors, as a lifeguard and swimming instructor for many years, while staying at the family’s cottage in Wareham, MA, or while enjoying the waters off Cape Cod on his boat, Bumblebee. He was devoted to animals and spent much of his last years with the family’s dog, Winnie, at his feet, or their cat, Sophie, on his lap.

Edward is survived by his spouse of 62 years, Mary (Reddy); his son Edward Kolifrath of Strafford, NH, daughter Nancy Grenier and husband John of East Kingston, NH, and daughter Susan Kolifrath of Strafford, NH; his grandchildren, Jessica Kolifrath, John Grenier and fiancée Greta Schluderberg, and Michaela Grenier and fiancé Steve Schroth, and his great-grandson William Grenier, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Margaret and Albert, and his siblings Margaret, Albert (Bud), Eileen and Patricia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edward’s name to Sterling Animal Shelter Inc., 17 Laurelwood Road, Sterling, MA, 01564. Many of the family’s pets came from the shelter’s All Sato Rescue Program.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 2:30 pm at the Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Rt.4, Lee, NH, 03861.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 12:00pm at St. John's Cemetery, Parker Road=, Lancaster, MA, 01523.
