Obituary for Edmond J Mayrand Jr.

Edmond J. Mayrand Jr., age 100, passed away quietly, in the company of family, on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, after a brief period of declining health.

Ed was born on April 10, 1923, the son of Edmond J. Mayrand Sr. and Bernice (Meserve) Mayrand. Ed was a lifelong Dover resident, graduating from Dover High School in 1941.

Upon graduation, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre as an engineer/machinist aboard LST 125. He achieved the rank of Petty Officer Third Class and received several medals: including the Good Conduct Medal, the Navy Asiatic Pacific Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Victory Medal and the World War II Medal.

After the War, Ed went to work for AT&T until his retirement from New England Telephone in 1985. He married his beloved wife, Beatrice (Morin) Mayrand on February 9, 1957, with whom he spent over 65 years. Together they raised 5 very grateful children.

Ed attended St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where he was active for many years serving as an usher and a member of the Vestry. He was also a member of the Elks and American Legion. He volunteered his time to Boy Scout Troop 172. After retirement he became a member of the Telephone Pioneers and volunteered at the Dover Food Pantry for many years. He loved working in his vegetable garden and spending time outside; but more than anything Ed loved his family.

As part of his 100th birthday celebration he was honored by VFW Post 5744 of South Berwick, Maine and presented the key to the City of Dover by Mayor Rob Carrier.

Ed was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice, his parents, his sister Louise (Mayrand) Beaulieu and her husband Fabian and his sister Barbara (Mayrand) Warner.

Ed is survived by 5 children, David Landry of Dover, NH; Edmond J. Mayrand III and his wife Asti, of Rochester, NH; Karen Mayrand of North Hampton, NH; Linda Mayrand of Dover, NH and Joyce Mayrand of Portsmouth, NH. His Grandchildren Jamee Landry of Rochester, NH; Collin Landry and his wife Shelley, of South Berwick, Me; Heather Williams of North Hampton, NH; Beth Williams of Dover, NH and Ben Mayrand-Carbone of Portsmouth, NH and his Great Grandchildren Lily Williams, Ivy Landry, Alyse Landry and Kaleb Fritz. As well as several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edmond's name to the VFW Post 5744 in South Berwick, Maine.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, June 12, 2023 at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 5 Hale St., Dover, NH 03820, with Rev. Suzanne Poulin, officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820.
