Obituary for David Wayne Laughton

David Wayne Laughton
Hampton, NH

David W. Laughton, 73, of New Durham, NH passed away suddenly on November 6, 2022 after a valiant fight with Alzheimer’s disease. David was born March 11, 1949 - a birthday he had to start sharing 5 years later with his sister, Sandy - to Elaine (Wallace) (Laughton) Roux and Richard J. Laughton in Dover, NH.

David adored his family and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be missed by many but especially his wife of 27 years, Marcia (MacGregor) Laughton; his two daughters Tracey Kemp and her partner Rob, and Cristy Laughton and her husband, Paul Juszkiewicz. His grandson, Ryan Rittgers, has lost his Grandpa and his granddaughter and grandson, Ella and Eli Juszkiewicz, have lost their beloved Bampy. David is survived by his sister, Sandy McNamara and her husband, Jack, brothers, Rick and Tom, and sisters, Lisa and Shawnda, and his favorite uncle, Al Mandeville. David leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well.
He was predeceased by his mother, father, brother, Paul and sister, Becky.

David, his mother and 3 siblings lived in the housing project of Dover from the time he was 5. David proudly spoke of growing up there and of the lifelong friendships that came from that experience. After graduating high school, David’s mom gave him a choice - go get a job or go in the service. David chose to proudly serve in the Navy for four years. When he left the service, he took a job driving trucks for the Teamsters. This was a lifelong career and passion for helping others, supporting his “brothers and sisters” and providing opportunities for all.

David was elected shop steward (at the encouragement of his Uncle Al to run for the position) and from there rose through the ranks of the Teamsters union to become the leader of all of New England including chairing the pension fund of New England and the conference director of the Brewery and Soft Drink division. David was known for his ability to overcome the most challenging problems with the most creative solutions. Thankfully he was wise enough to know that he needed a great team around him to make his “creative solutions” a reality. That is especially true of his secretary of over 30 years, Blondie. His greatest joy was knowing when he finished negotiating a contract, he had taken care of not just the Teamster member but the entire family - they were all going to have a better life because of his work. David always felt very blessed by what he was able to achieve with only a high school education so started a scholarship fund for the Dover Housing Authority over 20 years ago. The scholarship fund has helped many people from the project to start a better path in life.

David’s greatest joys in life were his family, playing golf, his 61 Corvette and having a Budweiser in an ice-cold glass with family and friends. David has touched countless lives. His warmth, kindness and calm demeanor made everyone want to in his presence. The world is a bit dimmer as we accept this terrible loss. Everyone will have a hole in their heart by the passing of this beautiful soul - the loving husband, the incredible dad, fun-loving grandpa/Bampy, supportive brother and friend of many.

Services: There will be a private burial service at the chapel in the NH Veteran’s Cemetery, Boscawen
A celebration of David’s life will take place in the near future
