Obituary for Cynthia Jean Newton (Stringer)

Cynthia Jean (Stringer) Newton, 69, of Farmington, NH, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH after a courageous battle with Liver Cancer. Her husband, David, and son, Jeff, were by her side.

Born in Maine on August 2,1953 to Joan Clark Thompson of Lubec, Cindy was adopted at just a few days old and raised by her loving parents, Raymond and Priscilla Stringer of Rowley, MA. She was a graduate of Newburyport High School class of 1971.

Cindy worked in nursing homes as an aide and later was the bartender at the Rowley VFW for 27 years where she met and married her second husband, David L Newton of Newburyport, MA. After many years living in Ipswich, they built a dream log cabin in Milton, NH where Cindy began working for the Rochester American Legion as a bartender first then spent 11 years as an assistant in the office and catering staff until she retired.

At age 36, Cindy was fortunate enough to be introduced to her birth mother where she learned she had 3 half-sisters, and 2 half-brothers. Her birth family was extremely welcoming, and Cindy fit right in and became an instant part of the family.

Cindy was a natural caregiver, always giving her all to her family and friends. She helped all 3 of her parents in their later years, cared for her grandchildren from her husband’s side, and stepped up as a mother figure to her other 4 grandchildren for many years to give them the best life possible.

When Cindy was not busy caring for others, you could find her gardening, making jams and other delicious meals, crafting till her fingers were raw or just simply dancing around and singing to The Doors or Mambo No.5 with her grandkids.

Cindy is survived by her husband, David L. Newton of Farmington, NH (Formerly of Newburyport, MA) and her son Jeff Poirier of Seabrook, NH with her 4 grand-children, Angelina Poirier of Dover, NH, Nicholas Poirier of Dover, NH, Gabriel Poirier of Derry, NH and Katherine Poirier of Farmington, NH as well as 3 step-children, Robert C. Newton of Dover, NH, Timothy A. Newton and wife Jean of Amesbury, MA along with grand-daughter Lillian Newton, and Deanna M. Walsh of Madbury, NH with grand-children Emily and Gavin Walsh. She also leaves behind siblings Alan Stringer of Rowley, MA, Brenda Shaw (Brewer, ME), Shelby Driscoll and husband Thomas (Windham, ME), Paula Thompson (Suffolk, VA), Brent Thompson and wife Susan (Punta Gorda, FL) and Larry Thompson and wife Jen (Kennebunk, ME). Cindy is predeceased by her sibling Catherine Jones, wife of Philip Jones of Amesbury, MA and her parents. Cindy leaves behind 2 great grand-daughters and several nieces and nephews as well.

ARRANGEMENTS: A celebration of life is being planned for a future date and relatives and friends will be notified when plans are finalized. There will be no burial at this time.
