Carole Elizabeth (Barney) White
December 11, 1942 – October 1, 2022
Carole E. White, of Northwood, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on the evening of October 1, 2022, at Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH, after several months of declining health.
Carole was born on December 11, 1942, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to Jack and Isabel (Hatch) Barney. Growing up in North Reading, MA, she spent her free time working with and riding horses and playing golf.
A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend to many, Carole was known and admired for her strength, her enduring positive attitude, and her sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Charlotte and her husband Jacques Phaneuf, her daughter Laurie and her husband Michael Francis, her grandson Adam Phaneuf, his wife Emily, and their two daughters, and her granddaughter Gabrielle Phaneuf and her husband Michael Beckwith.
She had a great love for horses and was an expert rider and caretaker of horses. While working full time as a legal secretary and raising her two daughters, she made time to pursue her passion for horses, working as caretaker for the horses of the National Lancers in Framingham, Massachusetts. She was very proud to be the first woman to ride in the annual reenactment of the rides of Paul Revere and William Dawes on Patriots Day. She moved to Northwood, NH, in 1986, and was finally able to have her own barn and horses. On weekends she often gave riding lessons to neighborhood children.
The family would like to thank the staff of Wentworth Douglass Hospital for their wonderful care.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 29, 2022 at 1:00 pm, with a reception and gathering to follow, at Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road (Rte. 4), Lee, NH.
