LEE- Barbara White, 71, of 34 Mast Rd, passed away on April 17, 2014 at the Concord Hospital in Concord, NH. The daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth White, Barbara was born in Norwich, NY on October 25, 1942. Barbara was a special person. She came to NH in 1976 as special collections librarian at the University of New Hampshire and morphed into a moving force in the development of the Women's Studies program at the University. Barbara served as Coordinator of the program for many of the years from 1980 until she retired as a full Professor. In retirement, Barbara continued to support the Women's Studies program, teaching, mentoring, and and even serving a brief stint as coordinator. Barbara was the author of several books and many articles as well as a speaker for the New Hampshire Humanities Council. In her free time, Barbara enjoyed family, friends, reading, cooking, traveling, gardening, and playing bridge. Barbara is survived by her husband, Harvey Epstein of Lee; her daughter, Elizabeth Epstein-White of Lee; and her brother, Frank White and his wife Charlotte, of E. Greenbush, NY. A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 5 PM at the Durham Community Church, 65 Main Street, Durham, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent for scholarship support to the Women’s Studies program at UNH.
