Obituary for Alton Harvey Knepp Mr.

Dover: A. Harvey Knepp died on December 21, 2011 at Riverside Rest Home at age 91. He was born December 2, 1920 near Curwensville, PA. He graduated high school valedictorian in 1937 at age 16. He attended Harvard and graduated 1949 with a major in Physics and completed his Masters in Science and Education at Bucknell University 1950. He enlisted in the service in 1940 and attended Officers’ Candidate School in 1941. He served in England, Hawaii and Germany. He finished out his military career serving for the National Guard and retired as a captain in 1981. During this time he met and married his wife Mary Robinson September 4, 1945 for 63 years. He started teaching in 1950 at Dover High School, became assistant principal 1956 and promoted to Principal 1962. He was the longest tenured Principal, of 13 years, at DHS. He retired in 1982 but served on Dover School Board from 1982-1984. With his administrators and faculty, he built a solid foundation and tradition of uncompromising academic excellence that has lasted to this day. He was active in the Retired Teacher Association, Dover Rotary Club, and member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. He is survived by his sister Phyllis Bauman of PA, his children Christine Sitbon of AK, Patricia Oglesby of WI and Robert & Maureen Knepp and grandchildren Patrick and Janice Knepp of Londonderry. Family wishes to express its gratitude to Riverside Rest Home staff of Unit 2 and the activity staff. Visitation is from 6-8pm, Thurs. December 22 at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home 655 Central Ave., Dover, NH. On Fri. December 23 visitation will be from 12-1pm and a Services at 1:00pm at the funeral home.
